and being rick you couldn't donate a lot to help other people and do things like convert your front yard to a 500 sq foot garden to grow food for the hungry?

No you don't. Most people in poverty turn to drugs and crime to escape their life. Your full of shit.

If I knew I were to die at forty and I had assloads of money I would give most of it to charity, so your point is invalid.

Many people live below the poverty line but still have wonderful lives. Being rich doesn't guarantee that you will ever fall in love, make true friends, start a family, or be happy at all.

I already have a husband I love more than anything have true friends and have a beautiful son. The only thing missing is being rich so yea being rich and only living till i'm 40 would be worth it because i'd be able to make my son and my husbands lives a BILLION times better than they are now being poor as fuck. Being rich equals happiness 9 times out of 10 my friend and only rich people think different.

@Shanna Would your son rather have inheritance over you for 40 more years? I guarantee your husband and son care more about you than your money, their lives would not be better.

Well, Shanna, rich people would know. What the studies say is that while serious poverty does make people less happy, rich people are no happier than normally endowed people. Of course the answer to this depends on exactly how poor you would be, but unless we're talking starvation, life is worth much more than whatever money.

Living until 80 as I am now would be fine, but poverty is another matter entirely, I don't want 60 years of struggling for food, probably being homeless, having no entertainment...

Being rich opens up the world. You can travel and experience so much. When your in poverty you cant do shit. And people who say the best things in life are free are full of it. I challenge anyone who truley believes that to quit their job and try and live a happy life as a bum.

    • 2

these comments just go to show we all think differently.. I don't let money or riches control how I live my life, life is what you make of it, or making the best out what you have, not having the best of everything. how does that go? Money can't buy you love or happiness.

    • 2

      Lawrence

Yes it can. Through massive donations to less fortunate you are loved and admired by those you help and money can buy amazing experiences, holidays and peace of mind.

You do realize that if you 1. get a lot of money, 2. give the money away, other people in general aren't getting any richer? Of course if you got all your money from the mafia and/or the richest 1%, you really would make a difference, but the question doesn't state that.

You can definitely travel without tons of money. Even in poverty, if you used all your resources towards traveling. I believe you would get very far.

Death should not be feared, but accepted as a fact of nature. You could use the money to finance worthy causes and gain more meaning in life rather than participating in "a miserable desire of a little more life." (Quote from the Crito, written by Plato, spoken by Socrates)

I don't mind dying at 80 in a lower class, but poverty is this: Noun The state of being extremely poor. Your life would suck. You'd likely be homeless, you'd probably have a hard life, your parents would very likely be doing drugs, and by the time you were eighty, who knows where you'd have ended up? In a hospital with AIDS, on the street as drunk as a lord? I know money isn't happiness, but I'd rather have a medium happiness rate than, well, THAT amount of happiness.

I like to think of this: While money might not make you happy, the lack thereof can make your life pretty danm misserable. Oh, and because I don't really care for my life, if i could help a multitude of others life. Getting rich and donating a shitton(metric) of money is my dream so yea :)
