Seems to me God should be in Hell. He knows everything, which means he knew what the devil would become before he made him, and he knows what sins you will commit before you're born. So he creates a fuckton of religions that all believe if you don't pick theirs you'll burn in hell, and then punishes humanity for doing what he created them to do and knew they were going to do by burning them for eternity, which is longer than anyone deserves to burn, especially some kid who starved to death in Africa and never saw a bible in his life. /endrant

@Matt, according to Abrahamic theology his name was Lucifer (in latin loosely meaning morning-star or light-bringer) only prior to his fall from grace. Post-fall his correct name is Satan as Lucifer has a connotation of being holy.

common misconception. Satan does not actually punish people and he is not "the ruler of hell" as most people think. The Bible makes it clear that Hell was created for the purpose of Satan's suffering and he only wants to bring people to Hell because he's a dick, more or less.

Let's make this simple. If you support Satan you are more or less allowed to do anything. You can drink, smoke, have premarital sex, masturbate, look at porn and give in to entirely natural feelings. If you support God you aren't allowed to do anything fun. You aren't allowed to disagree with anything that is written in the Holy Bible for fear of being overcome by Evil and turning to Satan. Satan supports Freedom. He's the guy who turns around and says do what you want, make your mistakes and I'll see ya when you die. God supports slavery and oppression. He's the guy that tells you what you have to do. You have no choice but to obey and love him or go say hi to Satan. He's the guy that turns you away when you fuck up. He's the guy who claims to be all loving and forgiving provided you obey his order and love him. He's the guy that gives you contradicting and confusing messages about love and life. Satan just sits in Hell with a bong waiting for more people to join his endless sesh. You decide.

Yes, yes it does. Welcome to religion. Also, this is a stupid question. Either have fun in life, then go to hell and get used to the punishment (you can get used to ANYTHING after enough time). Or be bored out of your skull for your entire life, then go to heaven and eventually get bored for the rest of eternity. Besides, none of it is real anyway. It's like asking if you'd rather get eating by a dragon or have sex with an elf.

while i am an atheist, i find it funny that people think the devil is bad Actually, the Devil gave humans critical thinking, which God didn't want. He wanted us to not eat from the tree of knowledge of whateverthehell so we could basically be thought-slaves for eternity, but the Devil did us a favor and turned the tables there with a single conversation. Also, the Devil killed a grand total of 10 people in the bible, while God killed somewhere 2.3 million. He understands human nature, but doesn't judge you for being human. He accepts God's unwanted children unconditionally. And still, he's the dickhead. Why? Because he can take it. Because he is not our hero. He's our silent guardian. A watchful protector. A dark knight.

Read the bible. It guides you to the truth, as it is the Word of God. It will show you who Jesus Christ is and if you are able to believe then you will be a Christian, but if you are not able to believe in Jesus Christ, the God of the bible, then you will be condemned. I hope you are able to find the truth. READ the book of John in the New Testament and seek God.

Thomas... If you're suggesting he read the Bible, you'd better go read a Quran. The religions are surprisingly more similar than most give credit for. Mohammed is, in a way, like Jesus. He was a profit and savior for the people. He led them away from drugs, gambling, and a lot of the corruption that was part of their daily life. Personally, I'm an atheist, but I was a Christian for the majority of my life. It's actually really awesome that you're so solid with your faith, but you gotta remember he probably is too. If you think praying for him would help, go ahead and do that. But he can make his own decision. You shouldn't get on his case for commenting. He was just curious.

@Thomas That's assuming that the Bible is true and that DC also believes in the Bible so you can't say that the Bible is the truth because you believe. Sadly the Bible is not a fact, no matter how hard you want it to be.

    • 0

      Armando Morgenstern

DCXK Don't listen to Thomas. He is a horrible representation of us, the Catholic community. We do not want the whole world to turn to our religion. I myself believe in God, in the Saints, in Jesus, the miracles, the Virgin, etc. I have not read the Quran but I plan to. I have nothing but respect for your religion and other people's religion. That said, I donot believe in some parts of the Bible. For example, the dream interpreter. Although he is a crucial part on the Bible, I don't believe in him. Also I don't believe God comes to the rescue every time you pray. I believe you have to do the things yourself, not rely on something or someone else. Despite that, I do pray. I pray for the well-being of all the people in the planet. I pray for thieves, kidnappers, etc. to find redemption and peace. I pray for poor people, for sick people, for live people and dead people. But never do I pray for people to turn into my religion. That completely destroys the goal of religion (any religion) wich is to live toghether and in harmony with everyone.

i dont get it if you read the bible and research all about this i can change anyone's perspective for instances: in the bible there were no dinosaurs and yet we found them in the bible they said god knew everything means he knew that devil was going to make adam, and eve's minds critical know what is shame and all and he knew that everyone was going to sin and since he could do anything he wanted instead of sacrificing his son on the cross why didn't he remake the world? well the fact "if" he was real he wanted to be a hero and the bible was actually translated from a old arabic/jewish langague on the sides of a cave means some of those facts are fake and to add it all up if are really religious and you see those top comments you must be thinking its the devil's work to make you think that theres a hell and heaven. let me ask you, why didn't god stop the devil then? why didn't god save all those people who were innocent and killed 2.3million people in the flood think about it carefully. and if you still think that way its ok.

I see your point of view. I respect that, but please respect my religion. You may say wether you believe in Him or not, but please don't tell my God "fuck him". Yes, Lucifer killed less people, but he thought he was greater than God, therefor he was punished. God destroyed the entire world population because he regret creating the humans because they were evil. But, what most people dont know, is that the whole Noah's ark is a story as in a children story. It is not real and we Catholics don't believe that happened. It is just a fable with teaching at the end. Yes, in the Bible it says it did NOT happened. Get the facts straight. Now, Meow, I agree with you. Gos should not send people to Hell just because they do not believe in him. That is one part of my religion I do not agree with. But that doesnt make me less of a "religion fanatic".

I always felt that Satan was the good guy. Let me explain: Yahweh creates earth, people, etc. Yahweh knows people will disobey. Yahweh creates hell. Yahweh throws people who disobey into hell to be tortured forever. Satan sees this and stands against what he sees as the ultimate evil. I agree with Satan on this one. Of course, all of that assumes that the whole thing isn't based on a fairy tale, which it is.

    • 1

      Armando Morgenstern

He did create the world. He did not know people will disobey. He does not create Hell. Lucifer, the Angel, thought he was such a good Angel he was better than God, therefore , God creates a new dimension called Hell for Lucifer to live in, to never be loved or seen by the mortals. I do agree, the whole "Who goes to Hell" thing is messed up considering the bad guys get punished for all eternity, but, believing what you believe in, please don't insult my religion by calling it a "fairy tale"

    • 3

      Slayer of Potatoes

Ok, I'll work on this point by point. 'He did create the world.' You base that on what? A book? If he did create the world, and wanted us to believe in him, then he would have left some form of evidence. 'He did not know people would disobey.' Yahweh is supposed to be omniscient, meaning he would certainly have known people would disobey. Not only that, but he did not give Adam and Eve knowledge of good and evil. Therefore, they did not know it was wrong to disobey. That one act (eating the fruit) supposedly damned all of humanity (original sin). According to christian theology, that means everyone deserves to go to hell and be punished forever. 'He does not create Hell...God creates a new dimension called Hell.' So he did create it. Next point. 'Lucifer, the Angel thought...he was better than God.' Based on Yahweh's character, that's not surprising. I can't think of a single person, real or fictional, who is not better than your god. '...God creates a new dimension called Hell for Lucifer...never to be loved or seen by the mortals.' That is just one more point against your god's character. One of my creations thinks he's better than me? Create a new dimension and send him there forever. Make sure everyone hates him for all time. As a side note, none of the stuff with Lucifer is actually in the Bible. That's all from 'Paradise Lost', a work of fiction written in 1667 by John Milton. 'please don't insult my religion by calling it a "fairy tale"'. I will give your religion my respect when it earns my respect. I will stop calling it a fairy tale when it stops looking exactly like a fairy tale. In conclusion, Yahweh is still the bad guy, and I will insult your religion as much as I damn well please.

Listen, at least we got something. You only say what you dont like, but dont say what you think how the world was created or whatever. And just because you dont see that it is not a fairy tale, does not mean that it is a fairy tale. satan hates humans because its the creation of god. he deceives us and wants us burn with him in eternity. christians dont are allowed to do whatever they want to. why? because jesus christ died for them. Thats what we believe. and i think that the bible is a handbook. you can use it for tips. at least we respect people like you. I mean, who am i to say that you are wrong? all i can say is keep your eyes open and i hope you find peace and respect for others.

    • 2

      Slayer of Potatoes

Again, going to address this point by point. 'at least we got something.' What does that even mean? Are you saying an irrational belief is better than no belief at all? If so, that is simply not the case. Irrational beliefs lead to irrational actions. I would point to the extremes of Christianity and Islam for an example. And before you say anything, no, I don't think every religious person is like that. However, point to one example of something similar being caused by atheism, or a lack of belief in something or other. 'You only say what you don't like, but don't say what you think how the world was created or whatever.' I didn't bring those things up because they are completely irrelevant to the discussion. Whether or not I know the origins of the universe does not make a difference with regard to whether Christianity is accurate. Since you asked, however, I subscribe to the scientific consensus with regards to our origin. The Earth was formed by particles of space dust clumping together due to their gravity over millions of years, and the universe began with the Big Bang. As for what caused the Big Bang, I freely admit that I don't know. What I won't do is make something up to fill that gap in my knowledge. That would be intellectually dishonest. 'just because you don't see that it is not a fairy tale, does not mean that it is.' I could easily turn that around and say that just because you don't see that it is, doesn't mean it isn't. Your religion is based on nothing but stories. There is no evidence to back up anything in the Bible whatsoever. Furthermore, your Bible has unicorns, dragons, giants and a magic all-powerful, all-knowing man in the sky. It's more like a fairy tale than Cinderella or Jack and the Beanstalk. The only thing missing is actual fairies (although angels are pretty similar). 'Satan hates humans because it's the creation of god.' That makes no sense whatsoever. Doesn't your religion say that everything is the creation of your god? That doesn't seem like a logical reason to hate something. Makes even less sense if you single out humans as one specific thing to hate, rather than hating everything equally. Does Satan hate rocks? Does he want clouds to burn in hell? If not, why not? They were supposedly created by your god as well. Also, if Satan is so evil, why wouldn't your god just get rid of him? Either your god can't get rid of Satan (which would mean he is less powerful than Satan) or he doesn't want to get rid of Satan (which would mean that he is okay with Satan tricking people, making your god ultimately responsible for people being tricked and going to hell). Besides, is is evil to be tricked? If someone deceives me, should I be punished? If not, then why doesn't your god intervene somewhere along the line and stop the people who were tricked from going to hell? Furthermore, this brings me back to one of my original points. Your god supposedly created hell. Your god supposedly made the rules for deciding who goes to hell and who doesn't. Your god is supposedly creating flawed humans, then punishing them for being flawed. That system is not only immoral, it is just plain sadistic. Infinite punishment for finite crimes is the ultimate evil. Next, the stuff about Jesus. Your god decides he wants to forgive people for the horrible crime of not being perfect. Rather than simply forgive them, he decides to create a loophole to get around the rules he created. Rules he could change at any time. So he impregnates a woman, who gives birth to his son (who is also him). He then has himself/his son tortured and killed. He/his son then returns to life three days later. Therefore, he can forgive people for being people, but only if they believe that story. I don't see how anyone can think that makes any sense. He sacrifices himself to himself to get around a rule he made himself. Complete nonsense. Nonsense which, by the way, makes Christianity a cult of human sacrifice, like the Aztec religion which involved ripping people's hearts out to appease their gods. Same concept. 'the bible is a handbook. You can use it for tips.' True, there are a few nice ideas in the Bible. However, there are also several horrific ones. The bible says that eating shellfish is an abomination, but slavery is okay. The bible bans haircuts, tattoos, touching the skin of a dead pig, wearing clothes made from two different fabrics (say goodbye to your cotton/polyester blends), homosexuality, working on a Sunday, and planting two different crops side by side in the same field. It also says that women should be submissive to their husbands, and that if an unmarried woman is raped, she has to marry her rapist. If she is raped when she is married, or when engaged to be married, then that counts as adultery, and she should be stoned to death. I know you're going to bring up the fact that most of that was in the Old Testament (not all of it), so I'm just going to counter that here. Jesus specifically said that he was not going to change a word of the Old Testament, that their laws would still apply. Also, the Ten Commandments are in the Old Testament, and you probably still think they apply. 'who am I to say that you are wrong?' If you have a good reason to think I am wrong, please present it. If you can successfully refute any of my arguments, please do. I will thank you for it. I don't want to be using any flawed arguments. I care about what is actually true, not what I want to be true. 'keep your eyes open and I hope you find peace and respect for others.' My eyes are open. I am open to being proven wrong. I have a great deal of peace in my life, I just happen to enjoy religious debates. As for the respect thing, I never meant to disrespect anybody. I respect all people. It is religion itself that I don't respect. It has not earned my respect. I respect you, and I respect your right to believe what you want to believe. Similarly, you have to respect my right to say that your beliefs are incredibly stupid.

Consider all these debates going on and then ask that question again. Yes, yes it is. Not everyone worships God.

I agree with Meow, everyone has the right to believe whatever they want. Dammit, Nick, this is why people think we all are close-minded fucks.

I'm not implying that everyone worships God. My point is, even if you don't believe in God, Satan, heaven, or hell, this is a hypothetical question, and hypothetically, why would anyone choose eternal burning over poverty? If you don't believe it's real, that's one thing; but the question is implying that it is.

If you really think about it, there's not much good you can do for the world if you have nothing to give. If you were rich, you could donate to charities and spend your life helping other people. Granted, I do not believe in religion but I would much rather 'burn for eternity' if it meant I could help people in my life rather than live humbly with Jesus ultimately just seeking the reward I would receive at the end. And that's all heaven is, it's incentive. And, quite frankly, I find it selfish that anyone would pass up the opportunity to spend their whole lives doing good for others if it meant they would go to Hell, and choose to 'preach God's word' so that they could live forever in Heaven.

Lol, neither exist so it is all good. Also if they did exist satan would be the good guy and god would be the bad guy. In the bible satan killed 10 people, god killed 2.5 million. If he existed, then he would have been the one fooling all of you into believing he was good and not satan. But yet again, the bible is completely made up.

Because if you are rich you can use your riches to do good, and hell would be a sacrifice you would have to make. But in the end, you would feel fulfilled. If you were poor, the only good you could do would be preaching. And it's pretty selfish that people would choose a comfy eternity in heaven over the chance to help so many needy people.

nobody will give all his money away to do good deeds xD You would give a tiny bit and want to have more money. it is never enough. you will become a slave to your money. but its true that you can help a lot of people but i guess my God can provide me with the same richness as satan does (even more). but i really dont need it, because i know that i could not give it all away again. and go to people who have nothing. sometimes they are happier then people with a large house and a lot of cars.

I may be an atheist, but this Jesus character seems like a pretty chill dude. I mean, in this book about him, he's pretty generous, and has that awesome instant-booze party trick. On the other hand, Satan dared to question authority and doesn't get all up in my business about my choices. But an eternity of hellfire... I guess that's a deal breaker for me. I just don't think there will be much time for chatting with all of the cool people downstairs if I'm boiling in sulphur or something.

I love it when atheists are so confident in the fact that there is no god (not just talking about the judeo-christian god either but any form of intelligent designer). I was brought up under Christian teachings myself, but I find the most intelligent people are agnostics, ones who are open to all possibilities, since anything religious can have no real points to be refuted or supported, only faith. I think most atheists are really agnostic and just simply don't know what to call themselves, because anyone dumb enough to even try to say with any form of certainty that there is NO god of any kind really needs to dwell on this amazingly complex and beautiful universe we live in.

I'm agnostic myself. I do agree with you on this, a lot of people just think 'well, i don't believe in God, so I guess the only option is atheism' and I don't think they really know what that means.

Actually, the problem seems to lie in a much larger percentage of the world, a group you two seem to be a part of. It's made up of people who can't (won't) accept the validity of other people's opinions and can't (won't) respect their beliefs.

God punishes those who don't see eye to eye with him, which is very selfish and jealous of him. Lucifer wanted to be free to think, free to believe, free to live the way he wanted, but God didn't like it because God is a spoiled little brat who whines and complains when he sprang get what he wants. Lucifer is forced to punish those who go to Hell, because he is being punished for wanting freedom, liberty, and justice to his people. Sounds a lot like our government, where they think they're high and mighty, and if someone doesn't agree with them, they snuff them out. Hell is actually Eden, and Heaven is a piece of crap. Everyone, let's go to Hell!
