I can live without the luxury of traveling to other countries, plenty of people live their whole lives happily within their home country. But I couldn't live comfortably without the nearly necessary convenience of a car to get anywhere nearby that you need to go, without having to worry about bus schedules, taxi prices, etc.
LOL I am phobic of driving and haven't driven for 12-13 years but I really, really want to travel the world and want out of this country something fierce, so my choice was pretty easy. ^.^

Plenty of ways to get around without you being behind the wheels.

you'll be waaay more limited if you can't travel to another contry than without driving. You can still move around with taxes, bike and bus.
