Being shot in both knee caps will hurt, but, (a) no vital organs to be stabbed (b) no waste leaking into your abdominal cavity and other wounds. Also you would not be paralyzed, that is caused by damage to major nerves such as the spinal column.
Not even close, I could walk away (not literally, of course) from being shot in the knees 9 times out of 10, but stomach wounds are painful beyond belief and more likely to kill you or cause you suffering for the rest of your life (however long that may be).
