Paarth, with youtube you can be paid if you get a featured video. Some people live off making youtube videos and get lots of money.

Blockbuster movie = one time revenue. 20 million subscribers = constant revenue stream. Though many people don't know this.

that doesn't mean that you can't... if I had that many subs I would most definitely be putting up videos and subscribers generally watch their stuff

Yes, but a blockbuster movie generates millions upon millions of dollars in revenue. You could just retire after making the movie.

Bullshit. It's constant as long as you produce videos that the subscribers want to see. Also, you don't get paid millions for every video. Especially not if you have to make these videos constantly. I don't know how youtube works, but on most sites that allow you to place ads you get paid anywhere from a cent to a dollar per 1000 views. Assuming you get 20 million views, you'll make 20000 dollars. When do people get 20 million views? Rarely. RayWilliamJohnson has almost 6 million subscribers, but his videos never get that many views. iJustine has 1.2 million subscribers. Her videos barely cross 200000. That's 5/6th of her subscribers not watching. So, considering that this is 'just 20 million subscribers', there's no guarantee that they'll like what you put out, so it's safe to assume that you lose at least 4/5th of that subscriber base. So you're on like... 4000 $ per video. I'm pretty sure that 100 million $ or whatever it is most blockbusters make, is greater than 4000.

One hollywood blockbuster wouldn't be enough to live on. 20 million youtube subscribers would give you a LOT of money for a very long time.

If you have a partnership with Youtube you get paid for having ads on your videos. 2 millions subs= a LOT of money being received from le Youtube.

    • 4

For all the people saying you would get thousands of dollards for each video you make: I'm fairly sure that you get paid 1/5th of a cent for each view, and just because you have 20 million subscribers does not mean they are all going to watch every single video you ever make. You would still make a fair amount of money: just not as much as someone who makes a Blockbuster movie.

People on Youtube make around $2.5 per 1000 video views. Now, even assuming only 1/4 of your subscribers watched every video, That's around $12,500 a video, and if you make 3 a week, that's 150 a year, which is 1.88m a year. And that's if only 1/4 of the people subbed watch your videos.

If you don't make videos you don't make money from subscribers...and you'd be surprised how hard it is to make a good video...and if you don't make good videos those subs will soon disappear. Blockbuster=billions 1 time payment and I could then pay my way through a good college, and get a good job and live a normal life with a tonne of money in my bank, it would be kinda like winning the lottery

idk, the movie industry are being kind of dicks lately, I used to want to work there as an artist but now it's just way out of hand, too big budget and not enough intelligent or original content. too much emphasis on copyright, youtube is where it's at. but this is why I'm an oil painter ATM.

Youtube is temporary as far popularity goes. Even if you make a video every day people are going to lose intrest eventuality. Blockbuster movies on the other hand make money from the boxoffice, dvd sales, merchandise, and then you can release it 20 years later as a special edition.

Producing a blockbuster movie is a 1 time revenue. In contrast 20 million subscribers on youtube gives you constant revenue. 1,000,000 views on a youtube video = $3300 and having 20 million subscribers would mean that on everyone of your videos you would have ATLEAST 3-4 million views, now multiply that by the numbers of videos you can make in a lifetime, and I assure you, its more than the blockbuster movie.
