have 20 million YouTube subscribers
produce a blockbuster action movie
Clearly nobody knows how amazing YouTube is.
movies nowadays suck anyway...
nat saying i could make a good one, they would just fuck it up
I agree that YouTube may be awesome, but it will never beat creating a blockbuster action movie...
dude, youtube is cool and all, but you get millions of dollars for making a blockbuster and with youtube, you get dick
Paarth, with youtube you can be paid if you get a featured video. Some people live off making youtube videos and get lots of money.
Blockbuster movie = one time revenue.
20 million subscribers = constant revenue stream.
Though many people don't know this.
doesn't say you make videos and or get views
that doesn't mean that you can't... if I had that many subs I would most definitely be putting up videos and subscribers generally watch their stuff
Yes, but a blockbuster movie generates millions upon millions of dollars in revenue. You could just retire after making the movie.
Bullshit. It's constant as long as you produce videos that the subscribers want to see. Also, you don't get paid millions for every video. Especially not if you have to make these videos constantly. I don't know how youtube works, but on most sites that allow you to place ads you get paid anywhere from a cent to a dollar per 1000 views. Assuming you get 20 million views, you'll make 20000 dollars. When do people get 20 million views? Rarely. RayWilliamJohnson has almost 6 million subscribers, but his videos never get that many views. iJustine has 1.2 million subscribers. Her videos barely cross 200000. That's 5/6th of her subscribers not watching.
So, considering that this is 'just 20 million subscribers', there's no guarantee that they'll like what you put out, so it's safe to assume that you lose at least 4/5th of that subscriber base. So you're on like... 4000 $ per video. I'm pretty sure that 100 million $ or whatever it is most blockbusters make, is greater than 4000.
You gotta realize you have to make quality content to keep 20 million subscribers.
@cpt sparrow Doesn't say you don't, either.
Doesn't say the blockbuster is any good. Hypothetical responses to this post...
Do you have any idea how much money you would make?
One hollywood blockbuster wouldn't be enough to live on. 20 million youtube subscribers would give you a LOT of money for a very long time.
1-3$ for every 1,000-3,000 view if you have ads
cmon a blockbuster you only get the money then, youtube is fun awesome and easy and you get payed a shitton
Who's to say all these subscribers will even watch your videos?
Well then they would un-subscribe and if you got 20 million you would be the most subscribed person/Most popular person on youtube and people sub for a reason... you would drawl in new subs and more and more!!
Who's to say anyone would watch the blockbuster?
A blockbuster is, by definition, a very successful movie.
You don't get paid for subscribers (correct me if I'm wrong)
If you have a partnership with Youtube you get paid for having ads on your videos. 2 millions subs= a LOT of money being received from le Youtube.
Fair enough, sorry. But you probably would get more for a blockbuster.
1 mil subs = around 0.66 mil a year. 0.66x20= 13.2 mil a year
You would basically get thousands of dollars for every video you make.
Having subscribers doesn't equal having viewers.
You get money from youtube PER month
For all the people saying you would get thousands of dollards for each video you make: I'm fairly sure that you get paid 1/5th of a cent for each view, and just because you have 20 million subscribers does not mean they are all going to watch every single video you ever make. You would still make a fair amount of money: just not as much as someone who makes a Blockbuster movie.
People on Youtube make around $2.5 per 1000 video views. Now, even assuming only 1/4 of your subscribers watched every video, That's around $12,500 a video, and if you make 3 a week, that's 150 a year, which is 1.88m a year. And that's if only 1/4 of the people subbed watch your videos.
Ray William Johnson and his team of producers make a living off of Youtube.
Why do you keep showing up on every one I answer
Subs = views views = money money = power (correct me if im wrong)
You are WAYYYYYYY wrong. You would literally be a millionaire.
@Zachary Voelbel 1 million subs is $660,000/year...? So you're saying Toby get's about $1.6million a year?
Correct, but if you have even half of those people watching your videos, you will be rich
... How is this a question?
look at first comment
If you have 20mil subscribers and each and every one watches every one of your videos (and there not on mobile) your making around $20,000 per video.
Wow votes for red exist... how surprising. Is it really 2013?
You get more creativity and more feedback from YouTube. Makes it feel more "home made".
20 million subscribers or 20 million moneys
I would have waaaaaay more control over my content.
Youtube. Is. awesome. Not every one watches movies / would watch mine (if i was in one)
Blockbuster... as in the store?? If so, waaay to easy to pick.
Who says I can't make a movie on my account?
Having 20 mil Youtube subs While account is monotized will eveentually give you more money then with a blockbuster if you put up loads of videos.
Xereeto, people like raywilliamjohnson get paid about or $3,000 per 1million views he gets.
SUBSCRIBE to me: mikathe1andonly XD
Tobuscus... Nuff said.
If you don't make videos you don't make money from subscribers...and you'd be surprised how hard it is to make a good video...and if you don't make good videos those subs will soon disappear. Blockbuster=billions 1 time payment and I could then pay my way through a good college, and get a good job and live a normal life with a tonne of money in my bank, it would be kinda like winning the lottery
you would be the persone with the most subscribers, the one right now is rwj with a bit more than 5 million
Blockbuster is getting out of business every where and I move Alot
Can't tell if trolling or just extremely retarded....
Youtube would pay you a lot and that money would continuously come in.
It doesn't say if the subs are active or not.
right, but it alos doesnt say if the movie you direct would be popular or not
@Zamekis, "Blockbuster, as applied to film or theatre, denotes a very popular or successful production."
Go kill yourself.
20 million subs 1/20th watch every video minimum. monotize the videos from the obvious partnerships you would get.... get rich
YouTube can go a long way.
TronCat:: me too
How is this even a question? do i want to be famous and not make money, or be famous and make money?
You're not directing or acting in a movie, you're producing one.
Easiest decision of my life.
Have to make sure I am putting out constant content that my viewers like to make money or investing and knowing I am going to keep making money... Not to hard a question, I will be making about the same either way yearly. And not to mention, if I can produce one blockbuster action movie that says I have potential to produce another.
fuck youtube. i wanna make one movie and be done.
not have to make shit every day
People rarely know who the director or anybody is behind a movie. Who hasn't heard of Smosh, Psy, or RayWilliamJohnson?
idk, the movie industry are being kind of dicks lately, I used to want to work there as an artist but now it's just way out of hand, too big budget and not enough intelligent or original content. too much emphasis on copyright, youtube is where it's at. but this is why I'm an oil painter ATM.
What if your movie sukes and nobody liked it? No money..
Didn't Blockbuster go bankrupt?
I would pick youtube not for the money, but for the experience.
If you produce a blockbuster movie, make a youtube channel, because by then, you'll be famous anyway.
20 million is more than anyone else on Youtube by several times. You'd be insanely famous.
I would much rather live a normal life, making youtube videos than having to live an upper class movie life.
20 million subs = YOUTUBE MONAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYY
Shameless advertising time! youtube.com/s0utht0wnjr
So much money i will make
Youtube is temporary as far popularity goes. Even if you make a video every day people are going to lose intrest eventuality. Blockbuster movies on the other hand make money from the boxoffice, dvd sales, merchandise, and then you can release it 20 years later as a special edition.
Hah! I produced an AWESOME action movie a few years ago...
Producing a blockbuster movie is a 1 time revenue. In contrast 20 million subscribers on youtube gives you constant revenue. 1,000,000 views on a youtube video = $3300 and having 20 million subscribers would mean that on everyone of your videos you would have ATLEAST 3-4 million views, now multiply that by the numbers of videos you can make in a lifetime, and I assure you, its more than the blockbuster movie.
