It does depend on which race you're being racist towards that will determine how scary it actually is. For example, if you're racist towards white people, that'd be okay and generally accepted, since you can muder one and barely get any news station time. However, if you're racist towards blacks, all hell can break loose, and you'll be all over every news station for using the word "colored".

@Kanerocks - Equality sort of works both ways though, doesn't it? If you want women to buy their own dinners (which I do, and I have in fact paid for over half the dates I went on) and buy their own rings and do their own cars (although it'd be easier to give it to people who're qualified, wouldn't it?) then in return men can stop harassing women on nights out and propositioning them, calling them lesbians when they say no, cat-calling on the streets and just generally treat us with the same respect as you would want for yourself. Does that sound fair?
