Hey man, the space shuttle isn't the vehicle that goes to the moon. The Saturn V rocket stuffs you into a small 3 man pod, shoots you up at 4 g, sends you careening through multiple radiation belts, oh, and gets to the moon. Not to mention, the criteria to be an astronaut are far more stringent than being a mountaineer. Multiple Apollo astronauts were experienced test pilots (Armstrong had over 900 flights), and in addition, there were many things that had to be done manually on the Apollo missions themselves. Armstrong brought the Eagle down on manual control.

Astronauts must have impeccable fitness. Their bodies must be able to withstand over 4 g's for an extended period of time during takeoff. That means if you weighed 200 lbs you would then weigh over 800lbs.
