Guys, jail. Not prison. Like county jail? Ya know? Not so bad, plus whatever you did to get there you would be with people equally as bad as you. No serial killers and shit. Maybe just someone who stole stuff... I could personally not be in isolation. I would go mental. Plus in jail, if you are a decent human being, I think they let you go out and walk and stuff as long as theres someone with you... so... not bad.

Actually there is a maximum amount of time they can hold someone so they obviously meant prison, and no they dont let you walk around in jail, there are no visitations and you get a crappy bed, worse than prisons beds.

No, jail and prison are different and for the sake of answering to the tee, I would take everything literally. Still I would love to be able to fend for myself in nature. Think of all the experience in survival plus the toughening of your physical and mental state. You'd be stronger as a person as apposed to weaker within a confined shell.

First of all, it never said you had to have committed a crime. If you are scared of shankings in prison, you can be isolated from the rest of the inmates if the authority feel you are actually in danger. This fact makes this question very stupid, considering you can end up in isolation for both these choices but you get food, water, shelter and NOT a complete isolation for one of them. Also, you don't "discover" yourself while in the mountains, you're in a very stressful situation where you are thinking of survival. You can twist an ankle and go days without food. You may be stranded on a mountain where there is very little source of water. Or you may simply lack the survival skills to construct a shelter and acquire food. *My initial vote went to the mountains but then i read criminal records are unaffected.

Living in isolation in the mountains would give you the time to discover yourself and figure out what kind of person you want to be in life. Living in jail for a year would pretty much seal the deal on how people view you, plus there would be a reason you are in jail, and that would stay on your permanent record.

This was a hard choice because... in the mountains you might have beautiful views and freedom, but you'd also have to fend for yourself. Also, there's a risk of being eaten by bears. In jail, you'd have regular meals and friends. But, as Rocks said, you could be shanked... So, I guess I'd rather risk being eaten by a bear.
