I can say from personal experience that being unimaginably tired and being physically incapable of sleep is torture. Literally. Falling asleep randomly is just an excuse to hire a chauffeur.

This is the reason why coffee was invented.

How would coffee help you fall asleep?

This doesn't make sense... Coffee doesn't cure insomnia at all unless you were meaning something else

It's not about helping you fall asleep... It's about powering through your inability TO sleep and being productive. Obviously, neither of you have sleep issues.

i have insomnia and i know that coffee will not help that stuff. Only make it worse. In that situation you will want to have a really balls to the walls healthy diet to get the energy you need, not a cup of joe.

I used to have insomnia until I was prescribed some meds. It's fucking purgatory and nothing you do can help. Stayed up for 3 days straight and felt like I was dying, started hallucinating and seeing scary as fuck shit everywhere. At least there is somewhat of a med that helps narcolepsy. (Sodium oxybate I think)

Even though narcolepsy is highly inconvenient, would limit my job options, and would keep me from ever driving again, Insomnia sucks way worse. I've battled with this problem for 10 years and would do anything to get rid of it. Changes in body chemistry from lack of sleep create mental and physical problems beyond anything that narcolepsy could create. I've never heard of anyone attempting suicide or murder because of narcolepsy.

not being able to sleep is torture, i have chronic insomnia, your to tired to do anything, you begin to forget what is reality and your mind begins to play tricks on you, you get into a state of sub-sleep wherte you are awake and probaly thinking really slowly but a lot and anthing will make you suddenly joust up scared

I think the ability to not sleep is torture (I agree) so I would make sure I am in safe situations where I can sleep (like no driving even though I don't anyway)

Falling asleep in class and then having the teacher yelling at you and be like "But sir I have narcolep-zzzzzz..." I'd be excited to go to school every day. Plus not having enough sleep would be hell.

Basically, you fall asleep at random times. Much better than not being able to sleep, in my opinion.

Oh yeah, and it can cause you to die by putting you in extreme danger. The meds are life threatening. And you're dead tired all day everyday. Lose all your friends. With narcolepsy, your life passes by, and there's nothing you can do.

Oddly enough, when I was a kid, I had insomnia. Now I have narcolepsy. I am telling you from experiencing BOTH, I would give anything to have insomnia again. Narcolepsy is unrelenting hell. Insomnia sucks too, but Narcolepsy is pure torture. It is NOT just take a nap or attacks. You don't take a nap, you fall asleep. You're body couldn't care less what's going on. Not to mention decreased immune system, paralysis, pain. Because with narcolepsy you're actually getting less sleep than normal, because you ve about 5 minutes of REM PER NIGH

... I have narcolepsy... Lol oh and btw caffeine has 0 effect on people with narc. There's only two medications, if they don't work your screwed ( they usually don't) Narcolepsy really really sucks. I could only go to school for 2 hours back in high school, then go home and sleep till the next day. No social life at all, and always exhausted. I don't remember how it feels to not be exhausted.

narcolepsy isn't just randomly falling asleep it's a condition characterized by REM 'sleep attacks' which just means that you'll randomly feel tired throughout the day and will start to fall asleep but you can usually keep yourself from doing so (source: my psych class. if i got anything wrong here feel free to correct me)
