That would mean preventing America recovering from the great depression, which would in turn prevent the personal computer from being invented and refined into what it is today, AND it would mean no internet nor television, along with quite a few other things.

If the question asked: Would you rather prevent World War II or let it happen, I assure you the outcome would look very different. The majority of the 64% is just making rationalizations for why they picked the selfish choice.

@Joo Or, you know, we don't want to change history. That would have very drastic consequences and the present wouldn't be as we know it now, it might be worst.

I admit I am being greedy but I am also being logical. You see WW II helped The United States recover from the great depression as said by danny and rise to be a global power and if it had not then most of the other countries in the world had lost a reliable trading partner and war ally. So in the end I'm saying evertthing happens for a reason no matter how disastrous

Good in theory but think of all the more people adding to over population, all the tech that came from the war like Microwave, etc.

Danny, Computers don't depend on America, they would have been eventually invented anyway, on top of it, America recovering from the great depression wassn't good, it sunk the rest of the world, America issn't that great.

    • 13

      Bob

Andres, Computers were invented to help combat Hitler. In their current form, they depend on WWII. Maybe without that, someone would have invented something in the 60s, maybe even the 50s, but technological progress would be placed about 2 decades back from today without WWII, and would never be the same. America wasn't the only country taken by the Great Depression. Germany only recovered by making guns for its armies, as did Britain. WWII acted as a stimulus to the entire world economy, and world GDP would likely have been less in 1950 without it. And Andres, out of all the nations in the late 30s and early 40s, the United States was the least imperialistic and, outside of the South, also one of the least discriminatory.

If you prevent WWII, then beating Hitler senseless would be cruel because he didn't do anything. Without WWII we'd be way behind on technology and innovations.

The computer wasnt invented for Hitler.... technically the official meaning of a computer is something that computers. Back in the 1800's and even before, a computer was a person who "Computed" equations and algorithms. Also, The types of computers which we are using which are called "General Purpose Computers" werent even invented until long after the war so tell me how they would be used against Hitler?

Winning 5 dollars can change your life..with it you can buy a couple gallons of gas and travel further than you would have without it. Then, because you got to go a little farther, nothing will be the same in your life as when you would have had to stop for gas earlier. Confused yet?

    • 2

There is a difference between life changing and assisting. That $5 would just assist me but wouldn't change my life. Life changing would be getting millions of dollars and buying out a company.

If you know anything about history you know that WWII broke the US out of the Great Depression, and you have no idea what life would be like today. Some big war would've broken out eventually, maybe after nuclear technology was more advanced, and millions more would have died. So maybe think some before you call me a selfish asshole.

Computers, Jet Planes, Rockets, Everything that ever relied on nuclear technology, the UN, the end of Nazism, the end of Imperial Japan, the effective end of Fascism, the final end of the Great Depression, the social progress forced by having to confront the Holocaust, loads and loads and loads of smaller things: All thanks to WWII. I sure as hell wouldn't prevent that. Hell, I would have taken the other choice even if it was bad for me.

  • 1

    Spectre

Preventing World War 2 will not only alter the future in many unknown ways but it will also prevent many innovations to technology made during the war. With the bad comes the good, which is good because the bad is in the past and the good is here to stay.

Except that changing the course of history is something that no one should ever do. Hypothetical question: What if there was someone who was worse than Hitler, and by killing Hitler you enabled that person to take over? WWII would still happen, you see, as there were many other power hungry people in the government. Plus, since another war would just happen, Germany would probably have won because Hitler was a terrible strategist and tactician.

    • 0

      Jamie Stewart

"sadist" you use that word but I don't think it means what you think it means. also WWII was responsible for so many good things that our economy, technology, and military would be decades behind where it is now. it was the greatest conflict in the history of the world but if it hadn't happened countries wouldn't have been driven to rise to the challenge and thus would have not made as many advances. think before you go making judgements.
