We're already over populated. Imagine even more people surviving. Global warming is not the only threat, people. Cancer can't grow into a problem that will kill everyone, overpopulation will. About the aliens.. I can't imagine how cool it'd be to make first contact. And it sounds like you are imagining them to be primitive creatures that only wish destruction. But if they're able to travel space efficiently, they must be intelligent creatures and it is unlikely they will just eat me.
Curing cancer seems like a good idea, but drug manufacturers would make the price unaffordable since so many people get cancer. If there was a cure for cancer, they wouldn't make money on "treatment drugs". The cure would be lost.....
