The way I see it. Eventually you would kill the gold market. You would turn too many things into gold. However, turning things into dust, allows for the gold market to succeed, thus not affecting an economy at all. You could potential use this power for a lot of good. Destroying bad people, helping military, demolishing buildings, etc. Although they both have uses, I see gold as a more harmful choice to society.
