Healing time isn't the main factor. That's like saying you'd rather get ripped in half instead of poisoned just because you die faster. There's far more pain, and I'd rather be slightly uncomfortable for a long time than be in excruciating pain for a little while.

Fingernails and toenails removed? Would hurt like hell, and if they're actually removed, they wouldn't grow back. AND AUCH. And there's no such thing as a slow papercut. Paper only cuts when moved rather quickly.

The pain of having your fingernails and toenails removed would be unbelievable. A few deep papercuts would really suck but they would heal fairly quick, I mean they did that on Jackass. Removing nails is a really common and very effective form of torture.

Nails coming off hurt like a bitch, but once it's done, it's done. I'd hate to have the slow paper cuts being done slowly one by one. Also I'm had a nail come clean off before and it's grown back just fine. Deep paper cuts would leave scars.
