Not being able to read would cripple you. It's called technology. You would be able to type, just not handwrite. Not being able to read would take away all communication. Also, if you know how to write but not read, that is redundant. You wouldn't be able to read anything you wrote!

Reading makes you more intelligent, and open minded. It helps you better understand the nuances of the language that you are reading in. Even if I couldn't write, I could always have someone write down my thoughts for me.
