Now the thing is, I could be innocent (most likely since I never did anything bad in my life) so I would want an appeal. Getting killed would kind of end those hopes...

He never said solitary. I'm assuming this is a medium-security prison. I could even work my way up, with good behavior and a recommendation from a psychiatrist, to a minimum-security. From there I could live, perhaps not a normal, but certainly some sort of life. Plus, years of free room, free food, and all the time to read original manuscripts and study history? Yes please.
