I just get so sick of "back in my day" stories I could throw an iPod and a Macbook Air in their faces, just to show them that in this day, that can now research what happened in their day, but I don't know if my grandma can do that because the Stone Age didn't have much recorded history.

Actually, you wouldn't go blind. It takes about 7 hours at the minimum in the dark and THEN look at the sun for five seconds to seriously damage your retinas. Isaac Newton tried it and kept his sight, and so did Thomas Edison, though he had to look at a light bulb as an experiment to prove that the original lightbulb wouldn't make someone go blind.
